Paralegal

JOB SUMMARY


Provide paralegal and serve as the primary contact between the Legal Department and Dental Services of Massachusetts, Inc. dba Delta Dental of Massachusetts (“DDMA”) business teams under supervision of attorneys.
 

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
 

Paralegal

  • Support end to end contract process, including leading in the creation, negotiation, and maintenance of managed care contracts, risk-based arrangements, provider agreements and vendor contracts, ensuring compliance with health and/or insurance legal standards and DDMA policies.  
  • Collaborate, coordinate and communicate across departments for client and network provider dispute resolution, and assist in the development and implementation of preventive programs to mitigate legal exposure of DDMA. 
  • Have experience working with a wide range of legal topics relating to managed care, dental services, and Department of Insurance laws and regulations, data protection, corporate governance, intellectual property, and more.
  • Have familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements relating to Department of Insurance, Healthcare Exchanges (Massachusetts Connector), state Medicaid dental contracts (MassHealth), including applicable filing and approval requirements.  Support and work closely with the Sales and Product Strategy teams relating to the same.  
  • Be knowledge of and support DDMA’s data privacy and security measures as it applies to dental insurance programs, including HIPAA, GDRP, and state specific data privacy.
  • Participate in the development and delivery of training programs for internal DDMA departments regrading contracting and compliance requirements.
  • Assist with the formation of new business entities, filing and recordkeeping of corporate records; maintain and monitor corporate record books including preparing form minutes and drafting resolutions and consents for subsidiaries; ensure that DDMA and subsidiaries are in good standing.
  • Draft and prepare basic legal forms and documents (e.g. affidavits, certifications, cover letters, contracts) as requested under attorney supervision.
  • Submit, track, coordinate, and assist with regulatory filings, exams, audits, and other regulatory matters and in regulatory compliance matters such as maintaining compliance logs as appropriate.
  • Contract Management System – assist in populating, maintaining, and using database & filing system for contracts, policies & other legal documents.
  • Manage multiple tasks, be detailed oriented, be responsive, and demonstrate independent thought and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a very fast paced environment that requires quick turnaround on multiple high priority needs with a high level of quality and accuracy. 
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills and be proficient in managing time and workloads to effectively prioritize tasks.
  • In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, other responsibilities, support and duties may be required and/or assigned as necessary.

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required

  • At least 5 years’ paralegal experience in healthcare space, with particular focus in managed care insurance and/or related fields of contracting and regulatory compliance 
  • Bachelor’s degree with a paralegal certificate required.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Sharepoint and Adobe Acrobat
  • Understanding of legal and contracting terminology and principles
  • Excellent writing and proof-reading skills required
  • Must be highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Must have good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player
  • Must be able to maintain confidences
  • Attends additional training as requested/deemed necessary
 

Preferred

  • Direct contract administration and management experience is a plus
  • Experience with creating or managing contracting processes
 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
 

  • Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively.   
  • Requires overall light physical effort (up to 25lbs.). 
  • Manual dexterity and sitting is required in carrying out position responsibilities (i.e. use of computer). 
  • Incumbent works primarily in either a private or shared office environment.
